UUID v7 Generator & Inspector

Generate RFC 9562 time-sortable UUID v7 identifiers in bulk and inspect embedded Unix millisecond timestamps.

About UUID v7

UUID Version 7 (RFC 9562) is a new standard for Universally Unique Identifiers designed specifically for modern databases. Unlike UUID v4 (which is purely random), UUID v7 embeds an accurate 48-bit millisecond Unix timestamp in its most significant bits, followed by cryptographically random bits.

Why Use UUID v7?

  • Database B-Tree Performance: Time-sortable values eliminate page splits and random disk I/O in PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.
  • Naturally Orderable: Sorting records by ID sorts them chronologically without requiring a separate timestamp index.
  • Collision Resistant: Contains 74 bits of entropy for unmatched uniqueness across distributed servers.

RFC 9562 Bit Layout

  • Bits 0-47: 48-bit Unix timestamp
  • Bits 48-51: Version (0111 = 7)
  • Bits 52-63: Sub-millisecond / Counter
  • Bits 64-65: Variant (10 = RFC 4122)
  • Bits 66-127: 62 random bits
